May, Thursday 14, 2015. Place: Raven high school. Time: 1:27
RHS was a private school. There they had seven periods per
day. At the time six period has just begun. Karen took her desk beside Alex.
Alex opened her pleasure book and began to read, paying no attention the
teacher. Karen day dreamed and looked out the window at the blue sky and the
gray clouds coming towards them from a distance.
The intercom turned on with a crackle and a voice said,
“Mrs. Bailey please send Karen Hamlett to the office.”
I stood and with a nod from my teacher I walked out the
classroom door. The hallway was empty except pieces of scrap paper that decorated the
floor. Karen’s footsteps made loud echoes and as she saw the lady at the front
desk she put on her warmest smile.
“Karen!” she said returning the smile, “Mr. Sherll wants to
see you.”
“Thanks!” Karen turned her short flower printed skirt
swirling around her legs. She walked into a hallway full of offices and stopped
at the one that said Dr. Sherll. Karen knocked softly.
“Come in!” a deep cheerless voice said.
Karen stepped into the office and closed the door, “I hope I'm not here for some bad news.”
“I’m sorry to say I can only offer you bad news, Ms.
Hamlett. We knew this day was coming soon. And here it is right on us. I’m
calling a code red in five minutes. Most of the major cities are already
overrun. I hope you know what you need
to do.” He said standing up. He always wore suits and looked cheerful every
day, but his jolliness was gone. His round belly bumped against his desk.
“I do.” Karen said turning towards the door, “ I'll pray you'll be safe.”
“ I'll do the same for you.” She heard him say as she walked
out of the door.
Karen walked down the hallway to room C105 and knocked on
the door. As a student opened the door just as the code red alarm went off.
“Close the door and the blinds! Everyone be quiet ” the
teacher said. All the students dropped what they were doing and rushed to sit
in the corner behind the desk.
Whispers came from the students “is this real?” “The teacher
looks worried.” “scoot over!” “ shhh!”
Karen spotted Bailey, “Bailey you have to come with me.”
The teacher turned to face Karen, “You two aren't going
anywhere. This is a code red you’ll stay in this classroom.”
She ignored the teacher and when Bailey didn't move Karen
grabbed her arm, “We have to go now.”
“Now wait just a moment!” the teacher walked over
infuriated. Her eyes like a sea of fire.
Karen turned swiftly and pinched her pressure point. The
teacher’s eyes rolled back and she crumbled to the floor. Gasps came from all
around the room.
“Karen!” Bailey shouted appalled. She bent over to check on
her.
Karen grabbed her by her arm and dragged bailey from the
room.
“Let go of me!” Bailey screamed clawing at Karen’s arm.
“Listen to me,” Karen said holding her tightly by her shoulders,
“If you don't shut up and cooperate you're going to die.”
Bailey stood stunned and her mouth hanging. Karen let go of
her and walked to room C104. She kicked down the locked door making many
students scream.
“Elizabeth stand up and come here!” she yelled, “And hurry
up we don't have much time.”
Elizabeth stood and walked forward, “What’s going on? Why
the heck did you just kick down the door!?”
Karen sighed and with her patience warring then she grab her
and drug her from the room like she did Bailey. Bailey still stood there her
mouth open.
“Come with me or die.” Karen said to them.
“ I'd rather take my chances.” Bailey shot out.
Students started peeking out of the doors. A teacher started
unlocking one. Karen grabbed Bailey and Elizabeth and started to run
towards the exit. Shouts came from behind them. Karen’s heart was pounding.
This had to go exactly the way it was planned or it’ll be all over. Bailey drug
her feet on the ground unwilling to go and Elizabeth was shocked into running
with them. Karen grabbed her keys from underneath her jeep and unlocked the
doors.
“Get in.” she ordered. Thankfully they both obeyed. “There is a God.” Karen said under her
breath.
She cranked the jeep and screeched out of the parking lot, a
teacher running after them. Karen tried to slow her breathing. Everything will
work out fine she told herself over and over again.
“Okay can you tell me what the bloody hell is going on?”
Bailey asked putting on her seat belt.
“There is an infection that lay dormant in many people for
years now. The new medication for allergies that has recently been released
somehow made the infection wake up. The infection heats up your organs to a
horribly hot temperature which kills you. After about five to ten minutes of
the person being dead the infection restarts up the body and you become a
walking dead person. Now the infection has woken up everyone that already had
it in their systems already are getting fever and soon they’ll be dead. Many
cities are already full of the walking dead.” Karen said racing down the
highway, swerving around the cars.
Bailey laughed, “You mean zombies? You can’t be serious.”
They were heading towards the city and they could see smoke
rising above it. Cars were slamming on brakes in front of them and many crashes
occurred. Fire and screams came from all around.
“Oh, I’m serious.” Karen slowed down and pointed to the side
of the road. There stood two people whose heads were down and shoulders slumped
over. They walked as if they were drunk. Before them was a dead something torn to
pieces and blood covered their clothes.
Elizabeth started laughing, “This isn't real.” She repeated
over and over tears streaming down her face.
Many bodies were walking down the road all walking like they
were drunk, “This is happening way too fast.” Karen turned around and stared to
head in the other direction. People were being swarmed by the walking dead many
lay dead on the ground. In only a few moments those people would also be
turned.
“Wait, how do you know about all this stuff? Why did you
only get us out of the school?” Bailey pierced Karen with her questioning eyes.
“I’m not really who you think I am.” Karen said keeping her
eyes on the road ahead.
“Naw dip caption obvious. You tell me right now who you
really freaking are.”
“My real name is Ashley Sylvia. I’m an undercover agent
working for the government. I was sent to RHS to protect you two and be ready
for action when this time occurred. I’m
truly twenty-six years of age and the family that you have met is also
undercover agents. They are not my true family. We are heading to my residence
to get a larger and safer vehicle and some supplies. Then we will head for a safe location.” She
pulled of the highway and onto a back road.
The road was completely empty. Bailey and Elizabeth
automatically recognized it as the road to Ashley’s house. Elizabeth pulled her
legs to her chest and hugged them tightly, “And if we don’t go with you?”
“I’ll have to use force.” She replied simply.
They sat in stressed silence for a few moments until Bailey
spook, “Why protect us? Why us?”
“You two are very important to our world’s future. If you
two die so does the earth’s existence." Ashley pulled into the drive way of her
house. It was a white southern house. A white H3 and a red dodge charger sat in
the driveway. She hopped out the car and was followed by her two friends.
“Get in the Hummer.” Ashley ordered.
The two girls obeyed. The trunk was full of can foods, guns,
ammo, and camping supplies. The sky was slowly growing darker and the wind
picked up. It made the leaves on the trees and bushes and the grass and flowers
dance. Birds called to each other and sang. Dogs barked as the sound of
crashing cars and gun shots reached their ears.
Finally after several moments Ashley raced out of the house
and pulled herself into the hummer. She
grabbed a key chain from the glove compartment and started the engine. Soon
they were racing down the back roads and passing slow or stopped cars.
“Once we get to our destination I’ll explain more to you
two, but for now there are pillows and blankets in the back. You should try to
get some sleep. This is going to be a very long drive.” Ashley said pulling onto the slowly moving freeway.
Hours later planes and helicopters flew over them and
towards a large city. Many people were out if their cars and watching them. Rain was sprinkling down on them. In the
direction of the city lights flashed and everyone heard the loud booms that
followed. A red glow came from the city.
Elizabeth fell into a deep sleep, but Bailey had no such
luck. She stood outside of the hummer watching the lights in the distance. They
were miles away from the city and the cars have been stopped for some time now.
Ashley was ahead talking to other
people. She came back with five guys. Two look to be around their age and the
other three were in their later twenties.
“They’ll be coming with us.” Ashley stated getting into the
driver’s seat. They all piled into the hummer.
“Ashley, do you want to tell me why the hell we are bringing
total strangers with us?” Bailey said gritting her teeth.
“They aren’t strangers. I assure you they are fine. Get in
the car.”
Bailey reluctantly climbed in the passenger seat. As soon as
she closed the door, Ashley pulled off onto the side of the highway and drove.
Many cars followed her. They drove like that for about two hours until she
pulled off the freeway. The silhouette of mountains was around them. The curvy
roads seemed dangerous to drive on in the dark, but Ashley didn’t even slow as
she went around sharp corners.
Bailey held onto the handle above her for dear life. Why did I come with this crazy person?
She asked herself. She lied about her whole life and I’m coming with her and five other
strangers to a remote location. Am I a idiot? How stupid could I be!
They pulled onto a gravel road and kept driving for about
two miles. Then the cars came to a stop. Ashley and the guys jumped out while
Bailey tried to wake Elizabeth.
“huh?” she said rubbing her eyes.
“We’re here. Come on you can go to sleep inside.” Bailey
helped Elizabeth out of the car and into the house.
When they walked into the door everyone was standing perfectly still looking in the same
direction. Bailey being confused asked, “What’s goi-“ and that’s when she saw
it. Two elderly people were covered in blood and were eating a germen
shepherded. The dog was torn open at the stomach and blood pooled around it on
the floor. The elderly couple pulled out its organs and ate, not taking a
notice to any of the people staring at them.
Their eyes were a dark yellow and they moved slowly. Their
backs were hunched over and they made no sounds. Then they heard a click as
Ashley pointed her gun at the older man. Before Bailey could stop her she shot the elderly couple. She shot them directly in the head.
“Why-why did you do that?!” Bailey shouted scrambling
towards the dead.
“They were already dead, Bailey. If I didn’t kill them we’d
be their next meal. They don’t have a mind anymore or a soul. They’re just a
body.” Ashley put her gun down on the table and looked at the guys, “Will you
help me clean this?”
Elizabeth dropped to her knees and started crying. Bailey
just stared in shock as they cleaned the mess. Minutes passed until she noticed
a guy standing still next to her. He was one of the younger ones and he just
stared too with his mouth gapping open. He had fear in his baby blue eyes. He
was a little bit taller than Bailey.
“What’s your name?” Bailey asked him.
“Jack, I’m Jack Slate.” He said removing his eyes from the gory scene to focus them on her.
“Bailey Orange.” She said stretching out her hand.
He smiled and took her hand, “It kind of sucks that we have to meet in these circumstances, huh?”
She smiled at that. Within minutes all the blood and gore was up and the bodies were buried. Bailey went into a small bedroom dragging Elizabeth along with her. Elizabeth seemed like she was in shock, her eyes were open wide and her hands were covering her face. Bailey helped her get into the queen sized bed and tucked the covers around her. Elizabeth’s soft sobs lullabied Bailey into a well needed sleep.
